Jean-Pierre Taite has been elected vice president in charge of the economy for the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regional Council, taking on a high-profile portfolio in one of France’s most industrialized regions.

The appointment was confirmed in a regional vote held June 26, 2026. Taite steps into a strategic role that includes support for industrial sectors, boosting the attractiveness of local areas, and helping companies across a region that plays an outsized role in France’s national economy.

A local official with ties to the business community

Taite is not a newcomer to the business world. According to official records from France’s INSEE (national statistics agency) and INPI (intellectual property office) published on the government’s data portal, data.gouv.fr, he is the manager and a jointly liable partner of SCI 2B2T, a real-estate holding company formed on July 31, 2005.

The company, which remains active, is headquartered at 4 rue Brossard in Le Coteau, in the Loire department. The same records list René Bayle as a manager and partner, and Valérie Taite (Poirieux) as a jointly liable partner.

For Taite’s supporters, that proximity to local entrepreneurs is a central argument for putting him in charge of the region’s economic policy.

A heavyweight economic portfolio in a major industrial region

Home to two major metropolitan areas—Lyon and Grenoble—Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes combines competitiveness clusters with long-established industrial hubs, including plastics manufacturing in Auvergne, mechanical engineering in the Loire, and chemical industry sites along the Rhône corridor.

The region ranks among France’s top regional economies by GDP. The vice president for the economy has direct influence over aid for small and mid-sized businesses, investment policy, and relations with large companies based in the region.

Taite has not yet detailed the program he intends to pursue in the role following the vote.
