Normandie Impression 3D, known as NI3D, has set up operations in Vire, in Normandy’s “bocage” countryside, positioning itself as a local option for made-to-order parts and prototypes for both individuals and professionals. The company is pitching 3D printing as a practical tool for everyday needs—especially in an industrial region trying to connect its manufacturing heritage with digital technologies.
NI3D’s approach sits at the crossroads of two trends: mass customization and making additive manufacturing more accessible for smaller customers with specific, local demands.
A local player in Normandy’s industrial network
NI3D is building in a region that already has an active “French Fab” dynamic—France’s national push to modernize industry—along with hubs such as NFactory, described as a meeting point between software developers and industrial companies, according to information published by Ouest-France.
In that ecosystem, additive manufacturing can be a concrete lever for companies that can’t afford expensive traditional tooling. Printing a one-off part, a prototype, or a replacement component is where 3D printing can change the economics for small and mid-sized businesses and tradespeople in the Vire area.
Frédéric Badou leads a one-person operation

The bigger hurdle is commercial: persuading craftspeople, very small industrial firms, and local public entities in the Vire area that locally produced additive manufacturing is worth paying for, rather than ordering from afar or giving up on a hard-to-find part.
