The regional government of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in eastern France has opened its 2026 awards for the “Social and Solidarity Economy,” a sector that includes nonprofits, cooperatives, mutual-aid organizations and mission-driven businesses.

The Region said the Prix de l’Économie sociale et solidaire (ESS) are meant to highlight local groups running projects with measurable impact on the area’s economic and social fabric.

Applications open to social and solidarity economy groups across the region

The call for candidates is aimed at organizations based in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté that operate within the social and solidarity economy. Winners will be chosen based on the relevance and reach of their local work.

The regional government is directly running the initiative as part of its responsibilities for economic development.

A sector the Region calls a major part of its economy

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté said the social and solidarity economy represents a significant share of employment in the region. The field spans employer nonprofits, worker cooperatives known in France as SCOPs, agricultural cooperatives and job-integration organizations.

Regional officials said the awards are intended to document that diversity while also recognizing excellence.

Recognition aimed at boosting credibility and national visibility

Beyond the symbolic value, the Region said the awards can help winning organizations build credibility with public and private funders and connect with partner networks. For smaller associations or cooperatives, a regional distinction can serve as a practical lever for growth.

Application details and the full timeline are available through the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regional government.
