Normandy’s state jobs push mixes in-person forum and webinar to spotlight little-known public-sector roles

Date:

France’s Normandy region is wrapping up a two-week campaign aimed at making public-sector careers more visible—especially the on-the-ground inspection and enforcement jobs most people rarely hear about.

From June 8 to June 19, 2026, the DREETS of Normandy—France’s regional office that handles parts of the economy, employment, labor, and social solidarity—ran a slate of events that went beyond a single open house. The program targeted several audiences at once: current public employees looking to move within government, outside applicants, and younger interns.

The initiative was organized under the regional prefecture (the French state’s local representative) and brought together all three branches of France’s public service: the national government, local authorities, and public hospitals. The stated goal: recruit locally and make career paths in government feel concrete to people who don’t know how the system works.

Rouen mobility forum drew a cross-section of public employers

The centerpiece came June 17 in Rouen, where a mobility forum brought together civil servants, contract workers, and interns with roughly a dozen public employers staffing information booths.

DREETS attended alongside a long list of Normandy-based state and public entities, including the Seine-Maritime DDETS (a departmental office focused on employment, labor, and solidarity), the DDPP (consumer and population protection), the Seine-Maritime prefecture, Normandy’s public-sector HR platform (PFRH), the Regional Health Agency (ARS), the regional office for food, agriculture and forestry (DRAAF), the regional public finance directorate, the Normandy education authority (Académie de Normandie), and the shared departmental general secretariat for Seine-Maritime.

Attendees could speak directly with working staff, take part in an “expo-quiz,” and join workshops focused on practical application help—writing résumés and cover letters—blending career information with hands-on coaching.

A technical webinar highlighted four enforcement roles

On June 18, DREETS hosted a webinar with 13 participants, built around testimonials from field staff in four oversight jobs: labor inspector; inspector for health and social action; CCRF inspector (France’s competition, consumer affairs, and anti-fraud enforcement); and a metrologist.

DREETS framed the roles as sharing a common mission: protecting users, workers, consumers, and businesses; ensuring compliance with regulations; and providing listening and information. Speakers described jobs that demand people skills, rigor, and curiosity—and that don’t fit a single recruiting profile.

Hybrid events aimed to reach candidates beyond Normandy’s biggest cities

Organizers said the effort extended beyond Rouen across the entire region, using a mix of open houses, job-dating sessions, conferences, and employment and mobility fairs. The alternating in-person and video formats were designed to avoid shutting out candidates who live far from Normandy’s major cities.

Participation was free and open to everyone. The fields presented ranged from education and sustainable development to health, administrative work, and technical roles—an attempt to show that regional public service isn’t limited to a few well-known tracks, but also includes specialties like metrology or health and social inspection.

What DREETS does—and why the agency says it’s hard to explain

DREETS Normandy said its work spans a wide set of responsibilities: labor law, competition and consumer protection, metrology, social cohesion, and employment policy. That breadth is exactly what the two-week campaign tried to communicate, since the acronym itself can be opaque to outsiders.

The Normandy prefecture backed the initiative with an explicit ambition to highlight local talent and recruit locally. The hybrid approach—an in-person forum in Rouen paired with a webinar accessible remotely—was presented as a way to reach people who wouldn’t travel for a standard job fair.

Organizers point to interest in field jobs as a key takeaway

DREETS said it views the two weeks as a success, arguing that the conversations helped clarify what its jobs actually look like day to day. The June 18 webinar, with 13 participants, was described as a discovery tool for roles that rarely get attention during large public-sector recruiting drives.

No next edition has been announced. The program closed June 19 with a meeting of Normandy’s Regional Committee for Prevention and Occupational Health (CRPST), a sign—organizers suggested—that the push around public-service careers wasn’t limited to messaging alone.
