France’s Nouvelle-Aquitaine region is rolling out a €150 million (about $162 million) investment fund aimed at strengthening companies it considers strategic—especially in defense and aerospace.
Regional officials framed the move as a strong signal to the local industrial ecosystem, tying the fund to a broader push for “industrial sovereignty” that is increasingly shaping economic policy both regionally and nationally in France.
The initiative lands amid heightened momentum around French reindustrialization. The region pointed to the national “Choose France” summit, which has generated major investment commitments across the country, with tangible spillovers for multiple regions.
Defense and aerospace sit at the center of the plan
Nouvelle-Aquitaine is leaning into long-established strengths. Defense and aerospace top the list of sectors targeted by the new fund, reflecting a dense network of specialized companies in and around Bordeaux that has built up over decades.
In March 2026, the regional council convened a meeting bringing together the armed forces and local industrial players to align military needs for drones with the production capacity of small and midsize companies in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
The fund is designed to reinforce that trajectory. Companies in the region are facing growing order books, driven in part by rising European defense budgets. A dedicated regional financing tool, the region argues, could help firms move faster rather than waiting on national funding that can take longer to mobilize.
Viva Technology spotlights the region’s innovation pipeline
The announcement also comes as Nouvelle-Aquitaine promotes its innovation ecosystem on the national stage. Through June 20, 36 regional companies are exhibiting at Viva Technology, the major Paris innovation trade show, spanning fields from health to agritech [3].
From the Paris expo floor to production workshops around Bordeaux, the region is trying to pair visibility with investment capacity. For companies selected to benefit, access to the €150 million (about $162 million) fund could provide the missing link between prototype and scaled manufacturing.
